Weather Event Update: Monday 7 July 2025
Monday 7 July 2025 - morning update 10:00 am
Mōrena/ good morning Nelson & Tasman!
Highlight to start the day:
The weather is looking fine for the next couple of days, and NZTA has reopened SH6 Rocks Road!
Weather for the week ahead:
The forecast is predicting showers from the middle of the week, which we’re keeping an eye on.
Rāhui / temporary closure:
The rāhui is in place across the entire northern coastline of the Top of the South Island / Te Tauihu o Te Waka-a-Māui as floodwaters continue to pose significant disruptions across the region. It covers all coastlines, river mouths, and floodwaters, and prevents the gathering of seafood and kai in these areas as well as swimming and entering the water.
When testing shows it’s safe, the rāhui will be lifted.

Disposing of flood damaged materials?
Remember, floodwater and silt can be contaminated and can carry bugs that can cause gastrointestinal (vomiting and diarrhoea), skin and eye infections. We recommend you treat all surface water as contaminated unless you have been told otherwise.
If you have flood damaged materials, you can take it to council transfer stations once it is safe to do so. Keep any receipts of costs for insurance purposes (if there are charges).
Take photos of all your flood damage before you start the clean-up, remember to include a photo of the highwater mark.
We know this has been a distressing time for lots of people. Take care and keep looking out for one another.
