Weather Event Update: 6.30pm 12 July 2025

It’s been tough for many across the Tasman District, but we’re starting to get some good news. Crews are working hard to restore water, power, and road access.

However, more work is still to be done, but we’re confident that further progress will be made tomorrow.

Please see below for updates.

ROADS UPDATE

State Highway 60 has reopened between Riwaka and Upper Tākaka. The route is open to all traffic.

However, the highway has suffered weather damage and drivers can expect some sections of the road to be restricted to one lane and under give way and traffic light controls.

Road users must use extreme caution on this route.

RESTORING POWER

There are still 1200 sites without power across the district, down from 3200 this morning.

We're hoping to reduce this number to 700 tonight. Crews will continue work tomorrow morning at daylight to restore power to even more homes tomorrow (Sunday).

However, in some places, there will be extended outages.

WATER UPDATES

*Kaiteriteri and Riwaka*

Water supply has been fully restored to all of Kaiteriteri and Riwaka.

*Tapawera*

The "conserve water" notice for Tapawera is lifted. However, the boil water advisory will stay in place until we can do more water quality testing.

*Dovedale*

The Dovedale water treatment plant is blocked with silt and cannot be operated.

Residents on the Dovedale water scheme--please conserve water until further notice to preserve storage in your tanks.
