Weather Event Update: 7.00am 12 July 2025
Mōrena Nelson Tasman
The weather has eased overnight but we have had some record amounts of rain across the region. Daylight is going to give a clear idea of the impact of the last 48 hours, and we will update you with key information as the day unfolds.
Firstly though, a reminder to please stay safe out there, limit travel if possible, and keep clear of flood waters. The water may have washed away parts of the road and may contain debris, so treat all flood waters as contaminated and unsafe.
WATER
Kaiteriteri and Riwaka residents - please continue to conserve water.
There is a major issue with the water supply line connecting Kaiterieteri and Riwaka to the reservoir and supply is very low. Contractors are working to respond but cannot access the reservoir due to flooding.
A water tanker will be at the Kaiteriteri Motor Camp on the corner of Inlet and Kaiteriteri-Sandy Bay Road. Expected from 10:30am this morning. Residents will need to bring vessels to fill.
ROADS
Flooding and tree falls continue to cause road closures.

POWER
Most residents across Motueka and Golden Bay have had their power restored. There will still be some outages in these areas and there are still widespread outages elsewhere on the network. Repairs will begin first thing this morning.
Please double check your appliances to make sure they haven’t been left on when power is restored.
Please be vary of low or damaged power lines and treat them as live at all times.
WELFARE
If you feel unsafe, please self-evacuate to friends or family in the first instance. The following Civil Defence and community welfare centres remain open this morning for those who have evacuated or can't get home:
