Nelson Tasman flood event December 2011 » Roads, walkway, cycleway and reserve closures
Details of road closures, as well as closed walkways and recreation areas in the Nelson Tasman region.
Aniseed Valley Road is now open. There are speed restrictions and give way sections beyond the hill where the road is narrow and reduced to a single lane. Residents are urged to drive with caution.
Cable Bay Drive beyond Maori Pa Road is now open to residents and essential services only 24 hours/7 days with traffic lights in place to manage traffic. The road is one lane only at some points, and construction work is ongoing which may cause delays to drivers.
Iwa Road now has one lane open.
Routine sign maintenance and pothole repairs continue
The Department of Conservation has issued updates to the great walks within the Nelson Tasman and Marlborough regions. Download the following PDFs.
DOC changes to the Nelson Tasman regional walkways (256KB PDF)
DOC changes to the Marlborough regional walkways (213KB PDF)
Extra care should be taken when using new sections of track where slip damage has occurred. The Maitai Valley Road is closed from above Smiths Ford due to pipeline works on the road, not due to the civil defence flood event.
Please note: All beaches are open for swimming, including Rabbit Island (Moturoa) and Monaco. However there is still a temporary ban on shellfish collection in Ligar Bay, Pohara Beach, Tata Beach, Rabbit Island beach and Tahunanui main and back beach. More public health information.
