The Nelson Tasman Regional Emergency Operation Cente (EOC) is being stood down. There will be a small team monitoring river levels throughout the night.

Isolated households now evacuated - The Baton and Wangapeka Rivers are stable

Water

All residents on the Dovedale water scheme are urged to conserve water for at least 24 hours, as debris has affected the intake to their water scheme. Crews are currently working on restoring water services.

Summary:

Three households evacuated near Tapawera

Roading

  • Roads are blocked at Tapawera Baton Road between Twin Bridges.  Still closed.
  • The Motueka Highway is blocked by a slip at McLeans Reserve . Still closed

Residents affected

  • There have been some households evacuated
  • Two families have been helicoptered out and another has self evacuated. They ae being cared for by the in the Red Cross Welfare Team. 
  • Between 10 and 20 households are isolated at Tapawera .  

Flooding update

  • Fourth largest flood on record for the Baton River.
  • Baton River received between 13 - 17 mm in a 15 minute period earlier in the day.
  • The Baton and Wangapeka Rivers peaked earlier today and have receded slightly since. Stable at present.
  • More rain expected this afternoon. However, it is forecasted to fall on eastern hills away from the feeder rivers.
