The Fire and Emergency New Zealand crews worked hard to tackle the fire on Sir Stanley Whitehead Reserve this afternoon and now deem it to be under control.
Crews will continue to monitor the situation overnight.
Police and Fire and Emergency New Zealand will allow access to residents when safe to do so.
All roads have now reopened apart from the cul de sac of Grove Street from Milton Street.
As the hot, dry weather continues, everyone is reminded to be vigilant and it is essential to stay out of all the closed Reserve areas for your own safety.
There will be two community meetings tomorrow.
Representatives from Fire and Emergency New Zealand, Police, Red Cross, Civil Defence and other agencies will be available to answer questions. An NZSL interpreter will be present.
